Questions with Angel: Ms. Fisher

This week I talked to Wellness coordinator, Sydney Fisher about her first year at Galileo and the responsibilities the wellness center has at Galileo.

Q: What is your position at Galileo?
A: I am the wellness coordinator for the wellness center.

Q: Where are you from?
A: I am a native San Franciscan I was born and raised in San Francisco I attended Lincoln High School.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Boogie boarding is one of my favorite hobbies, but I also enjoy reading, camping, and to go on road trips.

Q: Why did you chose Galileo?
A: They have a well established wellness center, there are a lot of students, and the Galileo team is awesome and dedicated to supporting students.

Q: What is the purpose of wellness center?
A: The wellness center is here to support and help students in any way possible in and out of school.

Q: How does wellness help students?
A: The wellness center is here to support students with anything they need if its therapy or just need a place to relax. Although you need a pass to be in the wellness center during class, but during lunch or after school students are welcomed to come get tea or any snacks we have available.

Q: What are some programs that the wellness center offers?
A: We have many programs for students that help them socialize we have a really good LGBTQ group that meets every week.

Q: What are some responsibilities wellness center has?
A: We are in charge of making sure wellness center works correctly, that students get help when they need help if it’s in a group or individual help.

Q: Does the wellness center work with any other organizations?
A: We work with a lot of organizations for example SFWAR, VYDC, Homie, are some organizations that come to Galileo to work with students and do presentations.

Q: What does it take to keep the wellness center running?
A: The Wellness center is a part of the unified school district wellness is run through the wellness initiative.

Q: What are some special events wellness is doing this year?
A: True Talks is an event when different organizations from different neighborhoods come to Galileo and present to the students this is happening next Wednesday after school at 2:30P.m. We are also having Stressless Fest that is coming up in November.
