Senior Connor Chavela (6’2″, 200 lbs) is the starting outside linebacker for the Galileo varsity football team. He leads the team in tackles and possibly the AAA (Academic Athletic Association). He is a strong candidate to be named All-City Backer this year.
Q: What position do you play?
A: I play Outside Linebacker (OLB)
Q: How many years have you played for Galileo? And how many years have you played that sport?
A: I have been playing 4 years at Galileo and been playing football for 6 years overall.
Q: How did you get into the sport?
A: I had a lot of friends playing for the Junior Trojans (in Sacramento) and I went out for the team and did better than I expected and loved it from there.
Q: Who taught you the game? And how?
A: My coaches at Oak Ridge High taught me how to be hard headed and tough during my games and to never let up when you’re ahead. They also taught me all the fundamentals of the game.
Q: Who/what is your inspiration for playing?
A: I have a lot of family backing me up and every time i feeling like quitting i just think of them and why i’m doing this.
Q: How do you think playing for school has made you a better player?
A: It taught me how to go through a lot of adversity even though we may not be the best team we still got to go 100% all the time.
Q: Do you play outside of school or for another team?
A: No I don’t play outside of school
Q: What is your personal goal?
A: I want to develop myself more and become an all-city (line)backer and hopefully play for college
Q:How do you balance school & the sport?
A: Whenever I have spare time I do the homework and other work I’m behind on, and even extra work for classes.
Q:What do you do during the offseason to train for season?
A: I do a lot of weight lifting, agility workouts and also running a lot to get in shape and football ready.
Q. What kind of sports legacy do you hope to leave at Galileo?
A: I want to leave everyone knowing that Galileo has the best linebackers in the city.
