Colleges including UC Santa Cruz, Skyline, Notre Dame de Namur University, City College of San Francisco and many took part of Galileo’s 4th annual college fair on Tuesday October 4th. College counelor Ms. Serena Chan brought in the wide variety of colleges to help students broaden their views about the different colleges available to them. Each college set up a table, handed out information, and answered any questions as Galileo students walked around the courtyard visiting the different schools.
“This past college fair was very succesful, and I saw many students getting involved and using the Fair as an opportunity, to get more involved in their future,” said Ms.Chan. She also said, “The colleges that come are the ones that respond to Ms. Chan’s invitation, and in many instances colleges have no time available to make it.” So it’s difficult for some top colleges to be in attendance.
AVID counselor Ms. Marshman agreed with Ms. Chan and believes students seemed to be more intrigued, and self-motivated to ask questions and get out there. Ms. Marshman also said, “The raffles and prizes really helped to attract more students this year.”
Although the staff felt that the fair was successful, some students had some suggestions to make it better. Senior Priscilla Lam said, “ I think we should have a larger variety of colleges, and not just private schools, and I would like to see some art schools too.” Senior Win Xiao added “Although I really liked the college fair I was concerned because there was a number of City College type schools and no big colleges like UCI or UCLA. We stayed local and if I’m trying to branch out I don’t want to see the schools just around me.”
