After 2 rough seasons trying to get into the playoffs, Galileo’s Girls Varsity basketball team is determined to make it this year. With a majority of returning players they believe that the experience of playing together the last few seasons will help them earn the wins they need to make the playoffs in the very difficult  division “1” in the AAA (Academic Athletic Association).

Girls coach Sargeant Hardee has been working hard with the girls & believes all of their hard work payoff with a trip to the playoffs. He said, “I expect the girls to play really well this season especially my team captains junior Annie W, and seniors Brittany R, and Corina K.  I put them up with some tough teams during the preseason, so I’m sure they should be prepared to go against our biggest nemeses Lowell, Washington, and Mission.”

These 3 girls have taken their leadership roles seriously to help them reach their goal. Brittany said, “ It feels good to be trusted and looked up to as a leader. I also feel that our team can go far and we have a lot potential and heart to win.” Corina added, “I feel honored and blessed that I can lead the team. Hopefully all the captains and I can lead the team to win more games.”

It won’t be enough for just the captains to lead the team however, the team knows that all the players need to come together to be successful. Lucky for them, they are already on this path. Brittany said, ”We’re all good friends and try to spend as much time together as possible because it’s our last year for most of us.” Senior center Christine L. added, “ We all got used to each others playing style so it made us more efficient when playing and our communication on the court has gotten better.”

Despite all of their optimism, the team faces a very difficult road to make the playoffs because of the tough schedule they must maneuver. The Lions have to play contenders Lowell, Lincoln, Washington & Leadership 3 times each during the season.
