The Galileo Boys Soccer team had another heart breaking ending to their season as they missed the playoffs by one game, just like last year. The Lions had a chance to capture the last playoff spot if they had won their last game against Lincoln, but unfortunately the Lions fell 3-1 to the Mustangs. Despite missing the playoffs, the Lions were proud of the effort they gave all season.
Despite not making playoffs, one of the reasons the boys soccer team had no reason to hang their head is because they felt like they trained harder than ever this season. As they trained, they improved as a team, whether it was emotionally or technically. 12th grader Aaron G. stated, “Our team improved on our cooperation, playing smarter, and being creative with plays.”
Another aspect players focused on besides working together, was scoring and many of the players main focus was to get some points on the board. 11th grader Eric A. stated, “[We wanted to] score more goals and make it to the playoffs.” 11th grader Sergio S. wanted to become a better player and make more shots in the goal.
In addition to playing better this year, the team also felt good that a lot of new players came & helped the team. 12 grader Aaron G. said, “We had a lot of new recruits and a whole lot of new faces, which will be good for the future.”
Amongst the team, Aaron believes he stood out above everyone. He stated, “I say that the best player is Aaron Gonzalez because I help out a lot of techniques. I help out with plays. I tell them how to finish a play. I do drills. Do some good warm ups. I give help when it’s mostly needed.” Aaron also went on about his friend 11th grader Eric A.. “Erick [is also a good player] because he helps us score most of the goals. He’s a top scorer. He’s got great skills. Great ball control. He’s also another team captain.”
Although the team came up short of their goal of making the playoffs, individually a number of players still set other goals. Aaron said,”We wanted to go to the championship, but it didn’t happen. Hopefully though I can get scouted & recruited.”
