World Party Showcases Galileo’s Diversity

By Joseline Saucedo and Stephanie Ho

The Galileo Multicultural World Party is here once again for its third consecutive year to celebrate the diversity in the community. This event recognizes the different cultures students have in Galileo. The event will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2017, held in the school auditorium from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at night.

“This event allows people who really love certain cultures to show it to others,” said Bai Zhen, the organizer of the event. There are some people with more than one culture at Galileo.

Previous PTSA president, Jim Fong was the one who originally thought of the multicultural world party. Bai decided to develop Jim’s idea into what is now the Multicultural World Party. The PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) funds/sponsors the event by contributing $1,800 for mostly food and decoration.

In comparison to last year, this year has more new things like collaborating with Futurama.

“Futurama has a new club called the Dreamers club which caters to English Language Learners for Spanish speaking students, incoming students, and a space to build a community,” says Bai.

Bai hopes that in the future, “[the Multicultural World Party performances] open up to a bigger community, have more time promoting, more posters, more advertising, even have parents and teachers perform, and more diversity than previous years.” This year, Bai worked closely with his club, Galileo Connection, and College Ambassadors to help promote the event at Galileo.

Bai said, “There were around 300 people who came to the World Party last year.” He continued, “This year I hope at least 300 come this year. We want to continue and honor people’s culture.”

The Multicultural World Party will be showing different performances from various clubs like the Korean club, Muslim Cultural Club, and Black Student Union. There is no admission fee and there will be free food. For a more specific schedule, the performances will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 8:00, food will be served. Bai Zhen and everyone who has helped create this event hopes to see you there!
