The Galileo Lions with a 6-5 preseason record, lost both of their first 2 games of the regular season at Galileo’s home court to the Washington Eagles (69-55) and Mission Bears(76-47).
Galileo started the season with a tough loss against the Washington Eagles on Tuesday Jan 9, 2018. Galileo didn’t seem ready to play from the get go, giving up 4 3-pointers to start the game. The Lions didn’t help themselves with all their mistakes, turning the ball over numerous times and not getting back in transition on defense. While the team did play well in spurts, it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit they dug themselves into. ” It was a tough loss, and we started off the game slow, ” said junior guard, Luke Yoda.
On Thursday, in the second game of the season, Galileo faced last year’s state champions, the Mission Bears. Galileo came out strong against Mission keeping the game close for the first two quarters, down only 10 points at halftime. However the Lions reverted back to their old habits in the 2nd half, not scoring or playing defense, as they gave up 22 points in the 3rd quarter. By the 4th quarter, it was too late for Galileo to to come back as they were down 20+ points in the fourth. “It was a very upsetting loss because we caught up in the 2nd quarter and blew it,” said junior center, Hamza Majdoub.
