February has not started out well for the the Galileo Girls Varsity Basketball team, as they dropped games against the Mission Bears (86-32) and the Leadership Griffins (77-35). Although the last few games have been tough for the Lady Lions, they are looking to get back on track and finish the rest of the season strong.
Playing against Mission on February 2nd presented a tough challenge for the Lady Lions as they are considered the fastest team in the league. Keeping up with the Bears was too tough of a task for the Lady Lions as they couldn’t keep up with the Bears on defense, and offensively the Bears swarmed the Lions, creating numerous turnovers. “Our team wasn’t being aggressive enough and that lead to the big deficit. We just couldn’t keep up,” says Junior Nicole Gonzales.
The Lady Lions had a hard time competing against the height of Leadership Griffins on February 8th. The team was badly outrebounded, and couldn’t knock down their open shots. However, both players and coaches see improvement as they are getting more open looks and spacing the floor better. “There were a couple of weaknesses and strengths we saw as the game was going on. “We need to work more on rebounding and hitting our open shots because we should be making those shots,” says Junior Taylor Morrow.
