In the closest ever All-City wrestling competition, the Galileo wrestling team was named the champions by the slimmest of margins, beating Lincoln 155-154.5 on February 17th. The win marks the 3rd title in 4 years for the Lions.
The victory came with a wide range of emotions for the Lions when Lincoln was originally declared the winner by 15 points. However, a Galileo coach mentioned that something didn’t feel right about the score, which led to the coaches asking for another official to recount the scores. The results of the recount was led to a Galileo victory by just half a point.
Senior captain Brandon Tu can’t describe how he felt. “There were definitely mixed feelings. However, at the end of it all, I was very surprised and thought it was super cool. I’m happy to have ended my high school wrestling career with a team championship and wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
Sophomore Peter Colias, the only wrestler from Galileo to make the state meet, describes the joy he felt as unreal. “Being up on the podium was great, but it doesn’t compare to being part of the amazing team that is Galileo wrestling,” he said.
