On Friday, March 2nd, the Galileo track team competed in their first meet of the season, the Sunset Invitational at Kezar Stadium. Even though only 2 athletes won medals, considering it’s only the first invitational of the season, the coaches and athletes were satisfied with the results.
Senior Timothy Lin, who competed in the long and triple jump, won 2 medals after finishing in third place for both events, but injured both of his ankles and had to be carried out of the pit. “I didn’t expect to perform that well, and although I got injured, I think it’s a small price to pay for the 2 medals.”
Junior Alanna Lee won a silver medal in long jump and a bronze medal in triple jump. Even though she did well, she still knows she can do better. She says, “It was unbelievable and satisfying, but there is always room for improvement.”
Although Timothy and Alanna medaled at the meet, senior Brandon Low barely missed medaling in the 200 meter dash. Although he was 1st in his heat, there were 3 athletes from other heats who ran faster than him. He was 0.03 seconds away from 3rd and 0.05 seconds from 2nd. His response over losing was, “I’m cheesed. Had I been in their heat, I would’ve won a medal.”
