Movies To Watch Over Winter Break

Since winter break is two weeks long, if there’s a day where you’d like to get out the house and make last minute plans, here’s some movie suggestions worth seeing with friends and family.

Ralph Breaks The Internet

Release date: November 21, 2018

Cast: Sarah Silverman, John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer

About the movie: The sequel follow-up to Wreck-It-Ralph (2012). The movie revolves around a larger world beyond video games and more complicated dimensions. The main characters, Ralph and Vanellope breaks the internet in order to find a wheel to save Vanellope’s game, Sugar Rush.

You should watch it if…you liked the first Wreck-It-Ralph. You get more of Ralph as he leaves the arcade behind and goes into the internet. The movie shows the story of growth in friendship between Ralph and Vanellope testing the bonds of their friendship.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

Release date: December 14, 2018

Cast: Shameik Moore, Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali

About the movie: Introducing Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Miles is a teenager who constantly sneaks out of school to hang out with his uncle Aaron Davis adventuring by the NYC subway where he was bit by a radioactive spider. Miles begins to demonstrate web powers and learns to control his powers as he decides what kind of hero he wants to be in order to become Spider-Man and save the Spider-Verse.

You should watch it if…you’re a comic book Spider Man fan. You wouldn’t want to miss the The movie includes more than one Spider-Man, including Spider-Ham, rendered like a 3D version of the classic Looney Tunes, Spider-Man Noir, completely in 2D black and white, and Peni Parker drawn in a anime style. The animation used to make Into the Spider-Verse provides a new and unique movie experience.

Mary Poppins Returns

Release date: December 19, 2018

Cast: Emily Blunt, Dick Van Dyke, Meryl Streep

About the movie: The mysterious Mary Poppins makes a surprise return to Depression-era London re-entering the lives of the Banks siblings, whom she babysat in the original movie. After Michael Banks, who is now a father of three, suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonders in life.

You should watch it if…you’ve seen the original Mary Poppins. The new movie follows up with the Banks children growing up and having kids of their own. Mary Poppins returns as a nanny of the new Banks offsprings. The sequel uses many of the same elements that made the original a hit, including singing and dancing as well as a mix of animation.

Life Size 2 – on Freeform

Release date: December 2, 2018

Cast: Tyra Banks, Francia Raisa, Shanica Knowles, Alison Fernandez, David Shae, Gavin Stenhouse

About the movie: The founder of Marathon Toys, a struggling toy manufacturer that produces Eve dolls, has been arrested for shady business dealings. Grace, twenty-something party girl wakes up to find herself CEO when her mother was arrested. With the company on the verge of bankruptcy and closing the majority of its stores, Grace makes the decision to cancel productions of Eve dolls. Adding on to her problems, her childhood’s imaginations has come to life causing the company’s stock to plummet.

You should watch it if…you watched the first Life Size movie, which came out in 2000. 18 years after the original movie, the story of a  barbie doll trying to live in the human world returns. This movie looks to be filled with forced adult humor aimed at teens and adults. If you’re looking for a movie filled with laughter this could be a great option to watch with friends and family.

Bumblebee

Release date: December 21, 2018

Cast: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Peter Cullen, Justin Theroux, Angela Bassett

About the movie: On the run in the year 1987, the transformer, Bumblebee (a robot who can turn into a car) finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town where he meets Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world. While Bumblebee is trying to protect Earth, he’s also on the run from the government.

You should watch it if…you’ve seen previous movies of Transformers. The first Transformer character to receive his own movie Bumblebee focuses on giving the backstory to one of the most beloved Transformer characters. Keep your eye out for other recognizable Transformers who show up in the movie.
