The Galileo boys varsity team was desperate for a win on Thursday, January 10th against the Lowell Cardinals in order to try to get their season moving in the right direction, however, a slow 1st half ultimately doomed the Lions as they fell to the Cardinal 53-49.
The 1st quarter started off bumpy as Galileo couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively, trailing 15-7 by the end of the quarter. The Lions sputtered even more in the 2nd quarter as the Lions have only scored 2 points the first 5 minutes of the quarter and only finished with 6 points as the Cardinals extended their lead to 12 points by halftime, 25-13.
The Lions finally came to life in the second half as they came out fighting in the 3rd quarter. The Lions finally got their offense going, led by junior shooting guard Asa Mobley’s 8 points and senior point guard, Luke Yoda’s 7 points, the Lion’s stormed back into the game and were down only 2 points, 42-40.
The 4th quarter went back and forth the entire quarter as the Lions tied the game, but could never take the lead. With 8 seconds left, the Lions needed a 3 pointer, down 49-52. Junior Christian Lu had a look at a 3-pointer, but couldn’t knock down the game-tying shot.
Speaking about the loss senior captain, Kevin Sheehan, said, “We needed to get in the rhythm earlier instead of waiting until the second half to get going.”
