My seven day challenge was to got to sleep by 9:30 P.M. every night. Since I wake up around 6:00 A.M. I chose to do this challenge because I wanted to get into a better habit of being able to get about eight hours of sleep every night. Before winter break I usually went to sleep around 9:30 – 10:00 P.M. and would feel rested the next day. After coming back to school from winter break, it was hard adjusting my sleeping schedule since I slept and woke up whenever I wanted. My hope was that through this challenge I’ll feel more energetic in the morning and pay more attention during classes.
On the first day of the challenge I was tempted to sleep past 9:30 P.M., and I did. I ended up sleeping around 10. Within the next couple days of the challenge though really wanted to make a change to my sleep habits. Since falling asleep is hard for me I knew I should be ready in bed around 9 with the lights off and try to go to sleep.
Around the middle of the challenge, sleeping by 9:30 was easier because I wouldn’t take any naps during the day. After the fourth day I started getting used to finishing the things I needed to complete and went straight to bed. Sleeping by 9:30 was easy on the weekends because I get off work at 8 and all I want to do was shower and sleep.
It was hard adapting to the challenge during the first couple of days because I felt like I had to do everything earlier then I would. Near the end of the challenge it started getting easier and eventually fell into a set routine that I want to keep up with. Waking up early was easy for me to do because I’ve always woke up around 6. I’m glad that I did this challenge because I always feel tired the next day and would fall asleep during classes, but now I feel more awake. I learned that the more sleep I got, the more productive I became.
