Lions Wrestling Takes Down Eagles and Bears

The Galileo wrestling team (3-1) was looking to capture 2nd place when they traveled to George Washington High School on Wednesday, January 30th to take on the Mission Bears and Washington Eagles (3-1). The Lions crushed the Eagles, 48-24 they scored by getting 6 pins out of the 8 rounds, finishing only behind the Lowell Cardinals in the AAA. The Lions also beat the Bears in a non-league match, 42-18.

“Our strategy going into the matches was to stay low and be reactionary to our opponent.”said senior Marino M. said, adding, “these were good wins and now we have to focus on trying to win All-City.”

Some of the highlights from the match included Junior Aymen B. narrowly escaping defeat against a Mission wrestler, then turning his opponent over and winning his match off from that move. Another highlight was Junior Captain Ben N. body slamming his Washington opponent, which hyped up his fellow Lions up and helped propel them to victory.

The Lions will look to carry the momentum from their wins against Washington and Mission into the All-City Saturday, February 9 at George Washington High School at 9 am. The Lions have won 4 out of the last 6 All City meets. Junior Kobe C., said, “I’m nervous but I think we can win, we just have to pin as many people as possible.”
