Teachers Who Went To High School In The City

By Michelle Lee & Michelle Ly

Most students can’t imagine what their teachers were like in high school. It turns out a number of Galileo staff spent their high school years in the city. Here are the places they spent their high school years, the things they remember and what they regret.

Mr. Allen (Special Ed Teacher)

  1. “I went to Lowell High School because I knew I wanted to go there. I respected and admired my mom and friends who were a year older that attended Lowell, so I wanted to go to a school with people like them.”
  2. “My most memorable moment attending Lowell was when my basketball team won city champs during my senior year. The game was against my brother’s high school and my team beat his. It was also the first time Lowell won in 53 years.”
  3. “A regret I had in high school was that I wish I cared less about being cool and didn’t worry so much about what people thought of me.”
  4. “I would want to tell the high-schooler me to trust the process. Do all your homework and listen to all teachers and coaches because they care for you and will be right about it.”
  5. “While I was in high school, Galileo was a wild and noisy school filled with students screaming and cussing which was way different from students at Lowell.”
  6. “I graduated high school in 2004.”

Mr. Jung (History)

1. “I went to Abraham Lincoln High School because it was my assigned neighborhood school.”
2. “My most memorable moment attending Lincoln was winning an essay contest with a $500 prize.”
3. “My worst memory in high school was seeing racial conflict between the students.”
4. “I would want to tell the high-schooler me to get more involved in various activities and stay away from drama.”
5. “While I was in high school I didn’t know Galileo existed.”
6. “I graduated high school in 1996.”

Ms. Kwan (Science)

  1. “I went to Lowell High School because my sisters, aunt, and uncle went there and gave good reviews about the school, so I applied to Lowell and got in.”

  3. “My worst memory in high school was losing by 4 votes when I ran for student government during my junior year.”
  4. “I would want to tell the high-schooler me that I should have tried or worked harder, did more activities, and enjoy and cherish my time in high school with my friends.”
  5. “While I was in high school my parents would tell me about the gangs at Galileo and historically, it wasn’t safe.”
