Coming off a tough loss to Lincoln last Thursday, the Galileo Lions badminton team(2-3) was looking to bounce back, as they faced off against the Academy Wolves (2-4) in a battle for the 6th and final playoff spot on Tuesday, April 10th at Galileo. The Lions came out victorious, beating the Wolves 5-2, and now have a 1.5 game cushion with only four games remaining.
The match didn’t start off well for the Lions as two of the Lions, juniors Bobby Y. and Tong L. dropped their two singles matches. However, the Lions were able to win the other five matches, including a doubles match by seniors, Jenny R., And Micah G.
Even with their lost, Jenny is still looking ahead at future matches. She said, “I still want to improve with my partner. I also want to have fun and try my best.”
While the Lions took care of business in all of their doubles matches, they’re hoping they can improve on their singles matches in their next match. With a playoff push hopefully coming up, some Lions are optimistic about their chances this year. “We’re hopefully gonna make the playoffs and hopefully we can make a run at Balboa and Burton,” said senior Harry L.
Next up for the Lions is a pivotal game on Thursday, April 11th at SFI (San Francisco International) at 4 pm, as the Lions continue to fight for the playoff.
