The Galileo Lions JV football season got off to a rough start, losing to the Balboa Buccaneers 49-0 on Friday, October 4th. The Lions were without two key players as starting quarterback, freshman Bini Bruk, and starting running back, freshman Frank Tiscareno, were ineligible.
Balboa used their run game to attack the Lions right from the start as they scored 7 touchdowns in the first half, as the Lions couldn’t stop the Buccaneers from running the ball outside.
Although the Lions were disappointed in their performance during the first half, they believed they could come out better in the second half. Defensive lineman, freshman Amare Porter, said, “We just need to stop their runs and put pressure on their offense. We also need to get momentum on offense and get ourselves going. I think if we do our job on defense we can set the tone and get everyone pumped to get back into this game.”
In a great turnaround, the Lions held the Buccaneers scoreless the whole second half with outstanding defense; however, it still wasn’t enough for them to come back. The Lions couldn’t get anything going on offense and turned over the ball twice in the second half.
Although the Lions lost their first game, they’ll be looking to bounce back against Mission High School on Thursday, October 10th at Galileo.
