Teachers College Experience

Curious about college and what the college experience is like, the Galileopress realized the best way to find out would be to talk to teachers about their experiences. Every other week, we will feature 2 teachers, talking about what it was like for them in college. Hopefully this gives students some insight into what college is like before they live out the experience for themselves.

 

Ms Kapchan, College and Career teacher

 

Where did you go to college and why did you select that college? 

“I went to the University of Maryland in College Park. “I wanted to go to a really big school I grew up in New York and I didn’t want to go north and didn’t want to go super south. Also because I wanted a lot of choices to study and I wanted to get away. They also had very good sports there.”

What was your experience in college like, did you enjoy college why or why not? 

“100% amazing and fun because I got to try out a couple majors first I did journalism and then went to English.”

What challenges did you face adjusting to life in college? 

 

“Managing my time, I had to pull a lot of all nighters and procrastinated. That was challenging because the next day after I stayed up all night I would be exhausted and couldn’t focus and couldn’t work to my best ability.” 

 

How was high school academics different for you than college?

 

“In college I had more academic choices in college than I did in high school.” 

 

How do you think you grew/changed through your college experience?

 

”I became more independent wanted to be self sufficient and got really inspired by other people that I never would’ve met in New York.

 

What is your best college memory?

 

“It was the party’s for sure because there was themes and games involved and meeting people from all over the world. I got a perspective from different people all over the world and not only people from the United States.”

Where did you go to college and why did you select that college?

 

“I went to the University of Berkeley because I really wanted to teach in the Bay Area.”

 

What was your experience in college like, did you enjoy college why or why not?

 

“I definitely enjoyed college. I enjoyed meeting interesting people.” 

 

What challenges did you face adjusting to life in college?

 

“It was definitely Budgeting I used to always run out of money by the end of the semester. And struggled with spending my money responsibly.”

 

How was high school academics different for you than college?

 

“There’s less pressure in high school and it was a lot easier.”

 

How do you think you grew/changed through your college experience?

 

“I think college really taught me how to be a lifelong learner.”

 

What is your best college memory?  

 

“First day at the dorms meeting all my new friends. I always enjoyed meeting new people and was looking forward to that experience when I first got to college.”
