WINTER BREAK ACTIVITIES!

By Dollar Dacasin, staff writer

Looking for something to do that can only be done during the winter season? The Galileo Press has found 4 winter related attractions/activities to help get you in the holiday mood. Whether you’re taking your friends/family or going by yourself, all of these activities will only be here for the Winter so go enjoy them while you can!

The Fisherman’s Wharf tree lighting happens every day through January 5, 2020, starting at 5 PM and ending at 10 PM. The show occurs every half hour, music is played while the lights on the tree are in sync with the festive holiday music. The combination of Christmas music, dazzling lights, and flashy ornaments really makes it something to remember. Best part of all? It’s completely free!

At Union Square, there is an ice skating rink perfect for the winter season! There’s music playing, lights surrounding the area, and a huge Christmas tree that you can take a picture with before or after ice skating. The combination of ice skating and seeing a ginormous Christmas tree really gets you into the Holiday Spirit. The rink is open from 10 AM to 11:30 PM everyday through January 20, 2020 and cost $18.

Have you ever wondered if Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is actually a thing? Well at the Academy of Sciences, they have real life living Reindeer! They allow you to pet them, feed them, or just watch them in disbelief since you finally get to see a reindeer in real life! Kid or not, this is still a really cool site to see. Prices range anywhere from $27 to $28.50 for youth who are from the ages 3-17. The Reindeer will be there from now up until January 5, 2020. (NO they don’t kill them after)

Last but certainly not least is Chestnut Street in South San Francisco. This street brings holiday spirit to a whole new level. Every house on the block is decorated to the max in festive colors, designs, some even have fake snow on their lawn and roof to make it even more realistic! Ranging from Santa and his Reindeer in his slay or Frosty the Snowman with elves holding presents on the lawn, there is always something new that you’re going to find on this street. This is also another free attraction! It will be up until around New Years when all the houses take down the decorations.
