BOYS BASKETBALL GET ELUSIVE FIRST WIN

By Dollar Dacasin, Staff Writer

After 3 disappointing losses to open the regular season, the boys Galileo Varsity basketball team brought home their first win of the season in a hard fought game at Balboa (76-64) on Wednesday, January 16.

At the beginning of the game, Galileo looked like they might be headed for another loss as Balboa jumped out to an 11-2 lead, but the Lions picked up their defense in the 2nd quarter, eventually taking the lead at the end of the first half, 43-36.

Balboa made a run in the 3rd quarter, cutting the lead to 3 to start the 4th quarter, but the Lions stayed composed and once again turned up their defense, which led to easy fast breaks. Senior guard Asa M. led the team in points with a strong 21 points. Another player worth mentioning is senior guard Robby L. who added a solid 17 points.

The win meant a lot to the Lions, especially after losing so many close games before. Junior center Daniel L. said, “We came in with the mindset to bounce back after the game before since we lost. Getting this win meant a lot to not only me, but also the team.” Junior guard Anson W. added, “Finally getting a win after losing that many times almost felt refreshing in a way.”

The team will look to continue their winning ways at home today (Friday, January 17th) versus the Mission Bears at 5pm.
