Snapping a two-game losing streak in league play, the Galileo Varsity Football team beat the Burton Pumas, 24-8, on Friday, October 18th, bringing their league record to 1-2. The key to the Lions’ first victory was strong communication on both sides of the ball.
“I feel that communication is key to having a winning team because if there is no communication nobody knows what they are doing. I feel that winning is amazing but you can’t learn to win without losses,” says junior quarterback, Jessie B.
After Jessie B. threw an interception in the opening drive that led to an 8-0 Burton lead. It didn’t look like Galileo would be able to break their losing streak but the Lions were able to answer right back when junior receiver, Quian J. scored a 63-yard kickoff return to make it a 6-8 game after the Lions missed the PAT kick.
The Lions then stepped up their defense as senior linebacker, Jan S., intercepted a Burton pass at Galileo’s 40-yard line. This set up a 60-yard passing touchdown to junior wide receiver, Victor R. to help the Lions take a 12-8 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lions forced another turnover on downs. On the offensive side, Jessie B., threw another long pass- a 65-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver, Demarco F., putting the Lions in a 2-score lead, 18-8.
Senior runningback, Tra’vaughn M., ran 65 yards for another touchdown to close out the game for a 24-8 victory.
