A Galileo favorite lunchtime spot, Cafe Le, is closing down permanently on Saturday, December 14th. While a variety of factors contributed to Cafe Le shutting down, it’s clear that Galileo students and staff will feel the void during lunch after having Cafe Le serve them for so many years.
After almost 20 years owning Cafe Le the Woo family is shutting down because someone new bought the store, as well as the store next door, and has plans to do something else with the space. Ms. Anna Woo, who runs Cafe Le, said, “They used to pay half [for the lease], but now our ties are not good because the store owners got a new lease, so I don’t have a choice, we have to close.”
Ms. Ana also noted other reasons for closing include the fact that she doesn’t have enough manpower to help in the store, as her husband (Daniel) already retired. Another issue for Anna is that business has slowed down over the years. Ms. Anna says, “At lunch, we lost a bunch of students, who knows why, but before we would sell to about 150 students a day. Now we sell to about 50 students.”
Regular customers of Cafe Le are sad to see the establishment closing down after many years of good service. 12th grader Waylon Reyes said, “I have been going to Cafe Le for the past 4 years. She has been a very nice lady; she always gave good quality and delicious food. The Galileo community will be missing her.” Another 12th grader, Mohamed Elmakzohmui, added, “I go to Cafe Le every day of the week. The food is utterly delicious. I get chicken teriyaki every day. I also like the Thai Tea drink they make. I will miss going there every single day, and the great service they gave me.”
Additionally, members of the Galileo staff are also sad to see Cafe Le closing. Math teacher Mr RIng said, “I loved getting food from Cafe le. I would try to go whenever I was able to at lunch. The food was always really warm, and delicious.”
Appreciating the time she’s had, Ms. Anna had some final words to the Galileo community. She said, “My last words would be thank you to the students and staff that would come every day, to help support my business. I will miss everyone, and I will miss selling food to them. I am lucky to have been serving the community for almost 20 years. I’ve seen a lot of people graduate college, and then come back. I’m very sweet. I will miss everyone.”
We wanted to know about the details on why they closed, and what their plans were for after they closed down. Ms Anna, the manager said ” My name is Anna, and I have a husband names Daniel.I lost a lot of customers, my husband is retired, just myself. It’s not enough power to work the shift. When I sell I will probably get another job, but not another restaurant job, a different one. The new guys by my store and that store. Used to pay me half but now our ties are not good because the new store owners got a new lease,
We asked her for more information on the subject, more details about her, her family, and her
Final words for the Galileo community. Ms Anna said” We have been in business for almost 20 years. Next year in January 2025 it will be 20 years.
David Russel from 12th grade said
“I would go to Cafe Le not often, but when I did, the food was always top tier. It would always come out hot and ready to go. The French Toast was my favorite, and the drinks were good too. I always liked Thai Tea as well. I wish them the best.”
