Lions Soccer finish strong preseason

The Lions Varsity boys soccer team ended the preseason in a 3-3 draw against San Domenico on Saturday, December 14th. Leading up to the final game of the preseason, the Lions picked up 3 wins (1 by forfeit) and 1 draw and a loss.

The Lions were able to strike first in the game with an early goal from Junior left winger Alessandro M, and was able to score the second goal later in the first half to make the score 2-0 and the defense was able to keep the Lions up going into halftime without letting the opposing team find a response to the Lions’ offense.

As the game progressed into the second half, the Lions’ offense searched for a way to add onto the score but a corner kick and a strike from San Domenico was able to keep the game going by forcing it into a 2-2 tie.

With the rain starting to pick up with a mix of hail, it didn’t stop the match from being played as both teams kept trying to break the tie, and the Lions’ offense was able to do it with a corner kick that resulted in a goal from Junior center back Marvin V. making it 3-2 with only 7 minutes left in the game, but towards the end, San Domenico was able to put the game back into a draw which was the final goal of the game resulting in a 3-3 draw.

“Everybody fought from the beginning of the game until the end, and it’s good to see that everybody left it all on the field,” said coach Mendoza after the game.

As the regular season approaches, many on the team feel confident that they’ll be able to make it far this season. “The team has potential to win in the playoffs this year with lots of practice and training every day, especially working together as a team and staying positive during the season,” said junior midfielder Hector A.
