The Lions Varsity boys baseball team won their second home game in a 7-5 win against Gateway on Wednesday, March 18. Before their second home game win of the season, the Lions also won against Gateway in their previous match on the road with a 12-2 win.

Gateway was able to surprise the Lions first by scoring two runs in the first inning and making the game 0-2, but the Lions were able to quickly respond by making a 1 run double and scoring their first run of the game, followed up by a 1 run single and the runner on third base reaching home plate through a wild pitch, this quickly turned the game around for Galileo as they took the lead 3-2 heading into the second inning.
The advantage over Gateway wasn’t able to get past the second inning as the visitors were able to score 2 more runs in the top of the second inning through getting a walk with the bases loaded and a wild pitch helping the runner on third reach home plate, the game was turned around quickly again early with Gateway recapturing the lead 3-4 over the Lions.
The Lions were held scoreless for 4 innings straight, between the 2nd & 5th innings, meanwhile Gateway was able to add onto their lead with another walk with the bases loaded during the 4th inning making the score 3-5, but that would be the last run Gateway would score during the game.
When the bottom of the 6th inning arrived, the Lions mounted a comeback with a 2 run bunt hit with runners from 2nd and 3rd base coming in to score which tied the game at 5. The Lions weren’t done though as they scored again with the runner on 3rd coming in to steal home plate on a wild pitch to make it 6-5. The Lions were able to put in the last run of the game with a 1 run triple making it 7-5. The Lions were able to keep Gateway scoreless during the final inning of the game at the top of the 7th to officially pick up their fourth win of the season.
“I think the game was crucial especially to boost morale, the bunt caused the game to tie and as a result it gave an idea that we could win and it happened,” said Junior and player of the game Shijiree A., who lead the team with 2 RBI hit alongside sophomores Elliott Hartman, Makoa Lawlor and Zane Ridley, in which all three also picked up 1 RBI.
