Girl’s Tennis Swinging Their Way to Playoffs

By Catherine Montoya-Quiroz, staff writer

The Galileo girls tennis season has been working hard the entire season in hopes of going to playoffs. Currently in 4th place (5-6), holding on to the last play off spot, the team has played well all season and is looking forward to their final regular season match on November 2nd against Wallenberg at Golden Gate Park at 3:30 pm that will solidify their spot in the playoffs of the AAA (Academic Athletic Association) if they win.

Many of the members of the team recall the rematch against Balboa High School (which happened on October 13th) as being the most memorable match this season so far as they pulled off a tough victory, 4-3. It was very close the entire way, and a number of the matches had tiebreakers, with Galileo being able to win both of them. Because the match was filled with tension and uncertainty, as well as helping put the team in a good position to make the playoffs, the entire team was excited to share in the victory.

Many of the girls on the team believe the team’s performance this season is due to the hard work they’ve put into practices and focusing on their goal of making it to the playoffs.

One of the team captains, junior Victoria Duran-Velero states, “The team has been doing great – a lot of team spirit was shown this season and there has been tremendous growth among all players of all different levels. The matches were intense, but thanks to wonderful managers and a supportive coach and the team overall, we finished off strong and with the Lion spirit!”
