Although it was close to being canceled, the peer resources class came through at the last minute to organize this year’s talent show, hosting it on Friday, April 26. Galileo students showed their array of talents as acts ranged from; singing, dancing, rapping, and performing theater acts.
The talent show was originally canceled due to the date overlapping with a Drama class field trip, according to Peer Resource teacher, Ms. Jackie Alacon, who was in charge of the talent show. She said, “I didn’t know the students had a drama field trip so a lot of the kids that were in the show wouldn’t be able to participate so I was just going to cancel it. The kids then came to me and told me that they weren’t going to go on that trip. I also wanted GSA to take my acts but they weren’t keen on that idea and they didn’t have room for the acts, so I slept on it and woke up the next day and decided I was going to do the talent show for the kids. This is why the talent show wasn’t normally the way I like to see it.”
Having to put it together through the starts and stops wasn’t easy, although in the end, they all believed it was a really good experience. Freshman performer Navi J. said,“Getting everyone into their spots was stressful, but the love from the audience made it great.”
