With over 95 participants, the ASB senior class cabinet is hosting the first-ever Senior Assassin game, after weeks of numerous seniors requesting to play. The game has created both excitement and paranoia for the senior class. Students can now be seen with goggles around their necks in the hallways and racing home after school, checking their backs.
The goal is to “assassinate” a target by shooting them with a water gun and provide video evidence. If no video is provided, the elimination doesn’t count. If players wear goggles/floaties from Monday to Saturday, they are safe from being targeted. Sundays, which are purge days, mean anyone can target whomever, and safety items do not provide immunity.
To participate, students had to pay an entrance fee of five dollars. Each player is in a group of 2, where their targets are another group of 2. Targets rotate every week. The winner of Senior Assassin will receive a jackpot amount of $220.
An admin of the game, senior Lisette W., says, “We decided to host this because people were asking for it, and I thought it would be a good way to promote school spirit and be more involved in their class. It is something fun for everyone and they can make money.”
Overall seniors are enjoying the game, but also have concerns. Senior Jett L. said, “I think so far it’s been pretty fun but auto-eliminations need to be turned on so that more people are required to go out and play instead of staying home all the time while the same few people go out for kills.” Senior Savannah M. also agrees, saying, “I think senior assassin is fun, it’s a good way to get our class together and involve different friend groups. It was enjoyable at first, but I think it’s lost its excitement. Not that many people are getting out, and it feels like it’s going to drag on for a long time. I think if we implement new rules that get more people out it’ll be more enjoyable.”
Despite those who got out, a handful of seniors remain in the game. senior Dominic S. mentions his strategy to Galileo Press. “My partner and I are stalking our targets throughout the week to get a feel of what their routine is like. We wait until purge day to drive and catch them at their locations.” Moreover, Senior Zaki Z. already has 5 kills. He plans to drive around San Francisco on Sundays. “You or your partner needs a car, or it’ll be harder to get people out. I also camped outside my apartment a couple of times and got 3 people out.”
Galileo’s Senior Assassin is set to end on May 27, 2025. Until then, the remaining seniors still alive in the game will continue to search around the city for their next target.
