Badminton ends their season with a W

Closing out the regular season in close fashion, the badminton team narrowly escaped with a victory against the Wallenberg Bulldogs 4-3 on Thursday April 18th.

. Many of the players in this game were determined to make the last game of the season a victory which contributed to the win. But even with this victory, the Lions ended their season with a disappointing record of 3-6 to end their season

Galileo was ahead for the start of the match as Boys single Junior Alex Y started the match off with a convincing 2-0 with scores 21-6 and 21-4. Girls single Freshman Yvonne Y also won in convincing fashion as she took her games with scores of 21-19 and 21-10 and another 2-0 to start the game.

It was a different story for the 1st doubles though as boys first doubles Raymond C and Rico Tlost 0-2 with score lines of 21-16 and 21-14. The girls first doubles Erica G and Evelyn Y would follow suit with another loss with a scoreline of 12-21 and 17-21 which at this point in the match makes the game tied 2-2.

For Galileo’s second doubles it was split with a 2-1 Win for boys second doubles Jacky T and Matthew V with scores of 21-16, 17-21 and 21-17. Unfortunately the girls second doubles could not seal the win for galileo as they lost 2-0 with scores of 19-21 and 14-21. The game is now tied 3-3 at this point and it falls to mixed doubles as the tie breaker.

The mixed double pair of Alex Y and Yvonne Y sealed the game off for Galileo as they won 2-0 with scores 21-18 and 21-15.

For most of the people on the team this season was very disappointing. It was filled with devastating losses, drama within the team and a lot of roster changes but people on the team are hopeful that next season there will be changes made.

Despite the difficult season, many on the team  believe the team has a lot of potential, especially as they prepare for next year. Junior Derek Z believes that this team could win many matches if they were focused and determined in every match, similar to how they played their last match. He said, “If we go into next season with the same kind of mentality [as we had against Wallenburg] we can win way more games.”
