After more than 40 years in education, coach and PE teacher, Mr. Adams is retiring at the end of this school year. He has found the most success with 10 varsity football championships and 2 varsity boys basketball championships as a coach. One of the big reasons for his decision to retire is not to have to commute every day to Galileo from the East Bay.

Before Mr. Adams decided to become a coach & teacher, he was thinking about becoming an architect or civil engineer when he attended Skyline College and San Francisco State. However, Mr. Adams decided to pursue coaching after his former coach at Skyline College, Robert L., told Coach Adams that he would be a good coach someday if he ever thought about going to that field of work.
The first opportunity Mr. Adams had to coach was at Serramonte High School in Daly City where he coached football, basketball and track & field. But in 1981 the school was shut down due to financial decisions & Mr. Adams was then able to join Galileo at the beginning of the 1981-82 school year.
Since joining, Mr. Adams has coached many teams, including varsity football, both boys and girls basketball teams and track & field. His biggest successes were on the football field, but Coach Adams was also able to win 2 championships with the boys basketball team, in 1998 and 2005, with the first title win breaking a 48 year title drought for the Galileo boys team.
Mr. Adams has also coached the track & field team since 1982, and has won 3 championships along with 7 state meet appearances. Coach Adam’s team was also able to win six section championships in a row against Oakland when San Francisco had a combined section with Oakland.
Reflecting back on his coaching career, Coach Adams said, “I’ve coached more than 1,000 games including summer league. I had 3 NFL players and the pleasure of coaching 2 current NFL players’ fathers.”
After retirement, Mr. Adams doesn’t plan on working with teams and will instead do individual coaching, alongside wanting to travel the world. “I’d love to go to all the places I haven’t been to,” Mr. Adams said, adding “I haven’t been to Europe, Hawaii or South America.” While traveling Mr. Adams also plans on taking photos and vlogging .
Coach Adams wanted to leave one last message for current and future Galileo athletes, saying, “have fun, enjoy what you do but don’t be afraid to fail.”
