The remaking of the bleachers has caused a huge inconvenience for a number of different groups at Galileo as access to a number of things around the bleachers has been limited. The bleachers at Galileo have been under construction since the beginning of summer and was supposed to be done in November, but the completion of the project is now not expected to be completed until spring 2025.
According to a few different faculty members, the bleachers are getting redone for 2 main reasons. The first is because the bleachers need seismic retrofitting due to earthquakes and stability reasons. The second is the SFUSD district has had enough money funded this year to provide several schools around San Francisco with a stadium remake.
While it’s important to make sure the bleachers are stable, The P.E. The department is one group that the bleacher construction has negatively affected. According to P.E. teacher, Mr. Mendoza, it’s really difficult not being able to use the field as it limits a lot of the activities students can participate in.

Teachers have also had a rough time finding parking since more than half of the parking lot is fenced off. Once the lot is full, teachers now have to find parking around the streets near the school or even further. Special Education teacher Mrs. Ritchey says that it’s ridiculous because she has to park all the way at Fort Mason and she’s scared of getting a ticket or getting her car broken into which has happened before.
Sports teams like Football and Flag Football have also been negatively impacted by the reconstruction because they haven’t been able to have any home games this season. According to varsity tight end, junior Ira I., he says, “It’s been frustrating not to have home field advantage this season. We just want our families to watch us play our games at home. But we have to travel to other schools for every game, which is a bummer.”
