Teachings in the blood

By Laney Figueroa, staff writer

Inspired by his parents, who are both teachers, English teacher Mr. Lisovsky has been focused on becoming an educator his entire life. When he was in school, Mr. Lisovsky would think about the things he learned in class and try to figure out ways he could present it for students to better understand the material, knowing that one day he would become a teacher.

As an English major in college, Mr. Lisovsky has always had a passion for literature, which explains why the only jobs he has had has been an English and reading teacher, at both middle school and high school. For Mr. Lisovsky, there are a number of things he finds gratifying as an English teacher. He says, “leading student discussions and student seminars, and seeing students learn and make connections, it’s really rewarding.”

Beyond his passion for teaching English, Mr. Lisovsky has also written 2 novels, the first for his masters degree, while he was in L.A  from June 2013 to 2014, and the second one before starting his teaching career, starting in 2018, but not being able to finish until during the pandemic, in the spring of 2020.

Between his 2 novels, Mr. Lisovsky enjoyed writing his second novel more even though it was hard to complete. He has plans for a third novel but doesn’t know when he’ll have time to write it, although he has been thinking about it for many years.

When Mr. Lisovsky was writing his novels he encountered many challenges but in his opinion he thinks his second novel was harder to finish. He often thought about giving up multiple times. Mr. Lisovsky says, “the second novel was more difficult to complete, due to the pandemic, and for a long time I didn’t know how to end it. But I like the second novel better as it was inspired by my first relationship.”
