Artist on the Side

By Yovanny M. Staff Writer

As a stress reliever and as another way to make money, ELD teacher Ms. Farmer creates arts and crafts, and sells them on websites like Etsy.

Ms. Farmer first started selling them because she had way too many of them at her house. Then, a lot of her friends started asking her if she could make them one as gifts, which made her see that people wanted them, so she started posting them online.

These arts and crafts are all handmade made from Yarn they are all crochet. Most of her arts include things like little figurines and hat’s; such as Baby Yoda, Mike Wazowski, animals and many other characters from movies and TV Shows. She learned how to make all these crafts on YouTube. This has become Ms. Farmer’s main hobby after she started teaching because she feels like teaching can be stressful.

Ms.Farmer started her her teaching career at Francisco Middle School, after graduating from UC Davis in 2017, after being a student teacher at the school for 2 years. From there, she transferred to Everett Middle school where she taught for 4 years, before transferring to Galileo this year.

She saw that Galileo had open positions for ELD teachers because she especially wanted to help new comers, coming from a different country, have a good experience in school. Her inspiration for teaching came from her own teachers in High School, she attended American High School in Fremont, where she had teachers that helped her throughout high school.
