My Cooking Experience for the First Time

Cooking is something I thought about learning eventually, but to this point I’ve never set aside time to try. But I thought I would get out of my comfort zone and cook something which was new and that I never had. I thought about what I was in the mood to eat and chicken came to mind, so I searched up recipes and came across a Creamy Herb Chicken recipe I found online. It looked good and kind of challenging so I decided why not try it out. 

In addition to cooking a Creamy Herb Chicken, I also added potato and asparagus. I usually only bake things like cookies, brownies, and a cake, but have never really made a meal so cooking one was a new challenge. I never really attempted to cook because I feel it’s something that can be a bit difficult and take a lot of time.

 The process of cooking felt like a roller coaster but in the end to me it was worth it. The reason I say that is because at first I couldn’t find everything I needed and once I started the process of preparing my chicken I noticed I didn’t have one of the ingredients (onion powder), but it was too late to go get it so I had to work with what I had. 

I was scared my chicken wasn’t going to come out well, but as time went by cooking the chicken wasn’t as hard as I thought. One thing I can say about cooking is that it’s very time consuming, which is one reason I told myself I don’t know if I would do this again. Then while letting the chicken cook I started making everything else, and just making sure nothing burnt, which luckily nothing did. 

Once it was all done I made my brother a plate so he could try and tell me how it was, but unfortunately he didn’t like it, so I was scared it was going to be bad, but he’s also a very picky eater. So I had my mom try and she said it was good, which made me feel better. Then I showed my friends and they said it looked good, so I told them I would make it for them to try next time.

 I wondered how much better it would have tasted if I had all the ingredients for the dish, so I planned on cooking the recipe again, but this time adding the onion powder. 

I was able to get the missing ingredient, so I made the Creamy Herb Chicken again. Since I already made it once it wasn’t as difficult as the first time around. Yet I can say I taste the difference in both chickens now that I have the onion powder. Personally, I feel like it tastes better the first time around, without the onion powder, and the only reason I say that is because with the onion powder it tastes salty, but without it tastes just right and creamy. That’s just my opinion though maybe so people like it all together to give it that kick. 

I’m very happy I choose cooking to get out of my comfort zone because it makes me feel more confident to try new things more often and I wouldn’t mind cooking here and there more often. I would really recommend this to other people and have them try cooking. It’s something new and different so it’s exciting cause it’s not just something you have on an everyday basis. I learned that anything is possible and you need to step out of your comfort zone sometimes to really achieve your goals cause if you don’t try at least you’ll never know what you’re capable of doing. Everyone needs to try something new every once in a while and I think I might start trying more new things here and there.
