APES to Alcatraz

After an hour of delay and way past the original time that AP Environmental Science class was supposed to be on Alcatraz, the field trip finally commenced on April 24th. This field trip included a tour of Alcatraz’s garden, nesting grounds, and parts of Alcatraz prison cells that are barred from tourists. The main purpose of going to Alcatraz during April was because it was the time of nesting season.

AP Environmental Science teacher Ms.Franzen said, “I think people spend many years looking across from Galileo to Alcatraz and never been there and it’s cool to go. And we do get to look at the largest population of nesting sea birds near a city in the U.S.”
