For the second year in a row, the GSA held an assembly on May 9th in order to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights, but it wasn’t without challenges. A big issue GSA club had this year was getting people to commit to the assembly, as a lot of members took roles but weren’t able to show up, so other members stood up to take their places. In the end, the assembly was only able to happen due to all the astounding effort and teamwork from those who truly wanted it to happen.
This year’s assembly was different from years prior due to the fact that it was that fortunate enough to have the drag queen, Honey Mahogany, in attendance. Honey Mahogany, is an American activist, politician, drag performer, and singer that grew up in San Francisco.
“You never know who’s queer, or who’s struggling with their queer identity, due to the hostility they may face in the classroom. Even if said people are unaware they are being hostile, they are hampering their queer student’s experiences and not allowing them to enjoy high-school to the fullest. Treat everyone with respect.” – Ana Sofia C, President of GSA
