Olympics Sports Options for Galileo

The 2024 Olympics, a hot topic over the summer, sparked a lot of interest due to its location in Paris, the city of love, and the many memorible performanes. Even though the Olympics happened a few months ago, many in the Galileo community still continue to talk about it. With that, we, at the Galileo Press, asked, “What sport in the Olympics would you like to see that’s not currently at Galileo?”

“Sumo wrestling because it resembles Japanese culture. They are serious, well disciplined, and their strength is emphasized.”

Ms Sakura, piano teacher

“Breakdancing because I want to break dance, and it looks super fun. I would also want to participate in it too!”

– Ms. Su, Pre-Cal Honors teacher

“High diving because it’s so graceful, and  fascinating to see them enter so fast . I can’t even see it happening because it’s that fast and I just have to guess their speed.”

– Mr. Benchimol, Algebra 2 teacher

“Decathlon because it’d be cool to see athletes succeeding in track events. You can be a sprinter, but you also need to be strong for a wide range of events, and it’s pretty unusual to see it happen for multiple days.”

– Mr. O’Connor, US history teacher

“Snowboarding because it looks high pace and competitive. It’s also unique as it’s on snow.”

– Alty L. 9th grade

“Boxing because I like to see people fight. I also have an older brother that’s buff and he’s always boxing. I am inspired by him.”

– Aries Y. 9th grade

“Gymnastics because my cousin does it, and it influences me to practice it. I think it also looks pretty cool to see how people flip themselves.”

– Joy D. 10th grade

“Lacrosse because I saw it on the Simpsons. It’s also interesting to see balls being thrown into a net.”

– Jimmy X. 10th grade

“Table Tennis because I think table tennis is pretty cool and should be a sports team at Galileo because of its complexity. There’s lots of hand movement and needs good hand eye coordination. Also the different moves of the game take a lot of time to learn and master.”

– Matthew V. 11th grade

“Gymnastics because it’s cool, and I believe that some of the cheerleaders should be in gymnastics instead of cheer. It also requires you to be very physically strong.”

Ngan N. 11th grade

“Dressage because when I was little, my dad was a horse rider and had a cowboy hat, but he smoked so much that he couldn’t ride horses. He ended up being lonely and ran away so I want to see horses again.”

– Andrew L. 12th grade

“Rowing because it’s a team sport and it takes a lot of effort. There’s very little team sports here, and I believe teamwork is awesome.”

– Carol G. 12th grade
