With AI tools like ChatGPT becoming increasingly accessible, schools are now grappling with whether students should be allowed to use artificial intelligence for homework and projects. Some people believe that using ChatGPT is considered cheating, while others believe it can be quite beneficial for learning. We at the Galileo press asked, “With the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT, should students be allowed to use artificial intelligence to help with their homework and projects? Why or why not?
“I’m not really sure right now, but I think they should be able to use ai. It lets kids learn information faster and saves a lot of time.
-Jackie S, Security Guard
“Yes because it can be useful as a guideline and help you out but not to have it do all the work since it’s really just cheating. Its also important to remember that ai also can not be really trusted. ”
-Micah B, Security Guard
“Yes but only for correcting work and not to have it do all the work for them. Using ai to do work for you it strips the actual learning from kids so it isn’t great”
-Joe T, Para-educator
“ Yes because it will help them find specific information they may not be able to find easy on the internet. AI can help people find other things that are way harder to find when you search it up online. ”
-Matt V, 11th Grade
“Yes because it makes the work easier by letting people get information and stuff they need for their work.I think it could let people get better grades”
-Trevon W, 9th grade
“No because Students come to school for a reason, To Learn not just to copy everything off from chat gpt, it doesnt let people grow their brain”
-Hassan R, 12th Grade
“Yes, because it makes the work easier for the people by making it easier for the research and it gives fast information. It lets people study faster and learn more things better”
-Seth T, 11th Grade
“No, because it’s pretty much cheating, using ai is bad if you really want to learn and people won’t be able to remember how they got the answer for the next time”
-Sergio E, 10th Grade
“No, because the teachers want students to do their own work and that’s why teachers come to school. So we can know what they’re thinking. Using ai really takes the passion away from learning”
