In-person Graduation Process

By Quiana Gomez, staff writer

This school year has been challenging in so many ways, but for seniors especially who have had to spend their last year of high school at home. However, seniors now have something to look forward to as Galileo, along with all the other high schools in the district, will hold an in person graduation. This graduation won’t be as big as before but it will still be something very special. This year’s graduation will be held outside at Kezar Stadium on June 2nd and seniors will only be allowed to bring/invite 4 family members to the ceremony. All people attending must  follow guidelines and rules from the health care department to be safe.

Although the process to plan out an in person graduation hasn’t been easy, those involved with helping make this happen have been happy to do this for the graduating seniors. Assistant principal Ms.Arkin says, “I feel great that the seniors get to have an in-person graduation! It’s been challenging- but worth it.”

In order to keep everyone safe, the ceremony will be set up for the seating where all the students will be 6 feet apart from each other and also have a mask on. Each family of 4 will be seated at least 6 feet apart from each other in the audience as well . The school and district are trying to raise as much funds as they can so that at the ceremony they can have everything they need to make this feel as special as possible for everyone. This includes audio-visual so everyone in the audience can view close up of the graduates receiving their diplomas, and not only that, but there will also be a live stream so loved ones at home can see the ceremony as well.

Seniors will participate in a Zoom graduation walkthrough before the ceremony so they know what to do on the day of graduation. Also cap and gowns have already been ordered for everyone and there will be a day set for all the seniors for them to go pick them up .

Seniors are looking forward to this opportunity, especially after having endured over a year of distance learning. Senior Paola Rosendo says, “ I believe that our class really deserved this and I appreciate this in-person graduation! We lost, in my opinion, the most important and memorable year of high school. I’m excited to finally be able to reunite with friends and meeting some teachers in person!”
