The swim season has gotten off to a strong start, with one standout performer that’s stolen the show: 1st-year swimmer Kenny S. Kenny, a sophomore who only began swimming less than a month ago, was the surprise of the meet, hitting an impressive time of 34.6 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle at the team’s first meet against Lowell on.
For someone so new to the sport, only learning how to swim 2 months ago, Kenny’s performance was nothing short of remarkable. “I think it’s really impressive and with his trajectory he’s gonna improve a lot for sure by the time of city championships” said by senior varsity swimmer Kenny T.., adding,“Seeing how well Kenny did in his first meet was inspiring for the team. He showed that even with limited experience, hard work and dedication can make an impact.”
“I was really surprised because it’s my first time at a swim meet, and I had a pretty good time,” said Kenny, reflecting on his accomplishments. Kenny’s performances weren’t just a time thing either, as over the past few meets, with his times consistently dropping by nearly a second each meet, finally, he set his record of 33.6.
Kenny only joined the swim team this year because he met others on the swim team who convinced him to join. After a few days of talking to him, he gave in and joined the swim team after the wrestling season.
At the start of the season, Kenny swam a 38-second 50 freestyle. However, after a series of meets and relentless training, Kenny shattered his previous time, clocking in at a sub-34-second 50 freestyle. Compared to other swimmers who swam JV last year, Kenny Su placed 3rd in his heat, which is a huge accomplishment because he went against people with experience.
As the season continues, Kenny is focused on refining his technique and building on the momentum of his strong start. “I’m excited to keep improving and push myself in the upcoming meets,” he said, eager to see how much more he can achieve.
