Black History Month Assembly

Commemorating the multitude of accomplishments of African Americans in the United States, Galileo’s Black Student Union (BSU) put together an assembly on Friday, February 28th.

The assembly educated students about people of importance in the African American community, included readings of empowering poems about people’s identities, and performers that sang or danced to songs by a variety African American artists.

“I think it went really well, setting up for it is fun but people are always nervous and it’s pretty typical for young performers,” said Coach Nick, who performed an original song. Junior Angelica H. who read poetry and danced on stage added, “Everything went great. It was easy putting everything together because everyone was involved.”

Students also seemed to really enjoy the performance. “I really enjoyed the BSU assembly and think its important to highlight and celebrate different cultures that don’t always get recognized.” – Senior, Savannah M. Sophomore Max L. added, “I think the assembly was a wonderful performance highlighting culture and strength. My favorite part was Coach Nick’s performance because even without music it was very enjoyable and carried a strong meaning.”
