Having worked at Galileo, previously, new assistant principal, Ms. Maloney has now made her way back to Galileo in the same role. Ms. Maloney has taken the place of previous assistant principal, Mr. James Goose-Larsen. Mr. Larsen stepped down to be with family during this time, and Ms. Maloney feels lucky to be at Galileo to replace him at the school.
Despite her only starting her position as assistant principal a month ago, Ms. Maloney already has experience working at Gal. She was held the same position at Galileo during the half the 2019-20 school year, in place of Ms. Kiss, who was on maternity leave. Ms. Maloney explains her previous time at Galileo as something she treasured. She says, “I just loved the school. I think we have amazing teachers, amazing kids, and an amazing administration. I just had so much fun here before that when I got the chance to come back, I said, “absolutely”.”
One of the things Ms. Maloney believes makes her best fit for this position is her experience. Ms. Maloney has been in the SFUSD education field for about 21 years, but about a total of 30 working with kids.
A few other qualities she believes contributes to her being a good fit is her passion for working in schools. She describes working in schools as “the best thing in the world” which is something she believes counts for a good quality to have.
With that being said, Ms. Maloney has a lot of hopes, plans, and impacts she hopes to make being the new assistant principal here at Galileo. Some of those hopes include making things more accessible to help build personal relationships, creating more behavior and support plans, 100% graduation rate, and finding ways for the counseling department and teachers to proactively help kids reach their long-term goals.
Ms. Maloney has many hopes she wants to achieve for the school. She has strong belief in her team, the administration, and the school as a whole within achieving these goals. Every year, Ms. Maloney believes the school reaches closer and closer to these goals. She says, “I think we all bring really valuable pieces to the puzzle and together we’re a stronger team.”
