CTE Fair Comes to the Courtyard

Students had the opportunity to learn about what different pathways and AP classes are available to them at the annual Career Technical Education (CTE) Fair that took place on Friday, February 25 in the courtyard during the entire school day.

Each program or class set up individual booths so students could learn more about them.  Each booth had teachers or students to represent the class in order to give out information, as well as pamphlets, for students to talk to or read extra information about the classes.

Students who represented their respective pathway or AP course felt it was important to show support and recommend them to other students. Junior Lam T., who was in charge of AP sciences, said, “I personally like those classes [AP Chemistry and AP Biology] and I don’t want people to be scared of them because there are stereotypes of it being too hard.” Senior Yoseph A., who’s been an AVID student for 4 years, volunteered to present at the fair for AVID, said “it [the class] helps with college preparation and I stayed in AVID for 4 years straight because it’s a very helpful guide to applying to college.”  Yoseph was proud that he was able to recruit more than a full page of students!

This year’s CTE fair had a number of small changes from the one that’s been held in the past. In previous years the fair took place in the gym, but this year it was moved to the courtyard in order to make it safer because of covid. Also, each class or program also had sign up sheets so students could let the programs know they’re interested in taking the class.

The pathways who participated in the event included; Health Academy, Biotechnology, Digital Communications, Start-Up Academy, AVID, Computer Science Academy, and Environmental Science. As for AP courses, the list of classes who had a booth were; the AP sciences, AP History, AP World Language, AP English & AP Computer Science.

This years fair was organized by counselors Ms. Talbot and Ms. Schkol, along with  Jasmine Jaciw, the CTE Coordinator. When asked how she thought the CTE fair went, Ms. Schkol said, “I think the CTE fair went really well! There was a lot of engagement; the most I have seen in my years at Galileo.”
