Ms. Chan

What do you like to do when you’re outside of school? Favorite hobbies?

It changes over the years, but I like to walk a lot now. I’m occupied with my daughter’s activities on the weekends. I used to play tennis but I haven’t had the chance to do that.

What type of music genre do you like to listen to?

I like classical and slow music. It helps me wind down.

Do you have any secret talents or skills?

I like singing and knitting.

What led you to this job?

When I went to church I volunteered a lot. I helped with day camp and summer camp Before I worked here I worked as a para and became a teacher then became a counselor.

What motivates you to work hard?

My parents work hard and the way I see it is whatever I do I need to do my best.

What do you like/love about your job?

I like the job because I have interactions with students. I’m able to help them give them assurance, but I can also learn from them. Every student has different experiences growing up and different cultures. I also like talking to parents, bridging the gap between parents and students. I think it’s good because sometimes in your teenage years it’s hard communicating with parents.

What do you least like about your job?

All those numbers, statistics, and data because I like to work with people instead of asking the numbers. It can help but I feel like it isn’t a true reflection of the students. It can be stressful at times because of the amount of projects we do. There’s a deadline for everything, but it’s okay. I still manage and I’m still here.
