Inspired by his mother and his older brother who are both teachers, Math teacher Mr. Thayer decided to follow in their footsteps after working for 4 years in technical support and sales for the software company, Novedge. He feels like being a teacher just like other members of his family helps bring them closer together.
Mr. Thayer is thrilled to be working at Galileo. He had heard great things about the school from his colleagues at his last teaching job at Mission High School, so he was very excited for the opportunity to work at the school when there was an opening. So far in his time at Galileo, in addition to teaching math, he has also been able to learn about his students’ hobbies & interests.
Overall, Mr. Thayer is glad he made the choice to become a teacher, saying, “I enjoy working with teenagers because they have so many different interests. I get to see my students grow as mathematicians, but I love learning about their hobbies and passions outside of math class. Whether it’s literature, art or sports, it’s so fun to talk about what motivates my students. I also enjoy going to the school performances and sporting events. It’s so cool to see my students thriving in their clubs, theater, music and sports. As an added bonus, I love to talk about Warriors basketball with my students!”
