Back to School Changes

By Logan Tracy, Kelly Li, Riley Figueroa (Staff Writers)

Riley – After being on online school for a whole year due to the global pandemic and finally coming back to in-person school, I’ve noticed many things have changed around the school, such as most teachers that were here in my freshmen year has either left the school or they switched to a different classroom and new teachers came into Galileo. Most teachers that stayed at Galileo changed their styles of teaching, which some students don’t like since it is not something they’re familiar with.

Kelly – Before the pandemic, there were no extra rules enforced onto the students during in person learning. During the pandemic with in person learning, new rules have been added to fit the protocol for Covid-19. The pandemic had shifted the school to look a little different. I remember during my freshman year here at Galileo, the hallways and classrooms always had some sort of mess like candy wrappers, chips, or soda cans hanging around. This made teachers forbid kids eating in classes anymore as rats had entered the class. Now, with the requirement of wearing face masks during in person learning, it has made it less accessible to eat in classrooms with the barrier of something covering our mouths. I’ve noticed there was a big difference in the cleanliness in the hallways and classrooms. I can walk through the hallways without sticky juice stuck underneath my shoes or stepping on food wrappers. Classrooms look more fit for a learning environment rather than a cafeteria. This new change has not only been a great improvement for me but also makes custodians have an easier time with their job.

Logan – During the midst of a global pandemic we returned to school with a new environment having not been in school for almost two years. I noticed that people in class and around the school socialize less or are more isolated in their own groups though this has always been a thing it feels more common now more than ever. In class specifically in times where the class would be socializing and getting to know each other now people just go on their phones. Seeing this has made me feel less comfortable to be social and meet new people.
