Mr. Braund

by Brandon S, Staff Writer

How many years have you worked at Gal? How many years as department head?

This will be my 5th year working, 4th as department head.

Why did you decide to teach at Galileo?

Before moving to San Francisco, I was here as a tourist at Ghirardelli Square and saw Galileo and thought it would be an awesome school to teach at.

What are your extra responsibilities as department head?

As a DH I have quite a few extra responsibilities, ranging from organizing meetings, ILTs (The leadership team), making orders, meeting with admin, and I act as the connector between admin and the rest of the department.

What are the benefits/drawbacks?

There really aren’t that many; I just get more work and extra prep time, but I take the blame if anything goes wrong.

What is your least favorite thing about being a department head?

None.

Why did you want to become department head?

It was available and thought it would be cool to add to my resume.

How hard is it to balance your tasks as a department head and classroom teacher?

Not hard. Having the extra prep time gives more time to balance out the work.

How do you think other teachers would describe you as department head?

I have no clue, but I feel like I do a good job, and am both equitable & fair.

What qualities do you bring as department head?

I feel like I’m a hard worker and don’t mind taking on a bigger workload. I’m also willing to work harder and longer than others may be willing to.

FUN FACT about yourself

I raced Nascar type cars at one point.
