Mr. Ring

How many years have you worked at Gal & how many years as department head?

It’s my 25th year working here and it’s my 2nd year working as a department head.

Why did you decide to teach at Galileo?

I was assigned here to student-teach and had a positive experience which made me want to stay.

What are your extra responsibilities as department head?

I have to attend leadership meetings at this school, represent the math department, run department meetings, and make sure teachers have supplies they need to teach.

What are the benefits/ drawbacks?

A benefit is that I get to work with a bunch of amazing educators and get to support teachers in the same department. One drawback is that it takes time away that could be spent with students.

What is your least favorite thing about being a DH?

My least favorite thing about being a department head is I have to attend a lot of meetings.

Why did you want to become department head?

I wanted to represent my department because of all the wonderful teachers.

How hard is it to balance your tasks as a department head and  classroom teacher?

My main interest in education is being in the classroom so it can be distracting to have other tasks from being a department head, but try really hard to separate the two things.

How do you think other teachers would describe you as department head?

I think I’d be described as caring , enthusiastic, and supportive. And as someone who always checks up on people

What qualities do you bring as department head?

I’ve had many years of experience in teaching, and am involved with many roles of this school over the years.

FUN FACT about yourself
