Music taste in correlation to personalities

By Marilyn R, Staff writer

Music is often described as a universal language that transcends cultural, social, and linguistic barriers. It has the power to evoke emotions, memories, and experiences, making it a deeply personal and meaningful form of self-expression. In fact, many believe that a person’s musical taste can reveal a lot about their personality, values, and worldview. From the genre and artist, they prefer the lyrics that resonate with them, a person’s music taste can be a reflection of who they are and what they stand for. We at the Galileo Press ask students “Who are your favorite artists and genres, and what do you think that says about you?

”I like a lot of indie artists that are a little less known just to feel a more intimate connection and that my music taste is more personalized than I did my research on my own. When I listen to mainstream stuff it’s to see “what the hype is abt” and I can def vibe with it I have a harder time loving it though.”

“My favorite artist is Tyler the creator and my favorite genre is R&B. I think it may seem that I can be like a follower for music rather than finding music on my own because I listen to songs that mostly get recommended to me by my siblings.”

-Lelya P.C (Freshman)

“Well, I listen to hip-hop bc it’s jumpy and feels really chill and it just gets me started. I listen to soft-toned jazz whenever I’m in the mood to study and just chill. I listen to classical like Frank Sinatra and ruff like that just because I love music history. I just think I’m so diverse inside my brain and I have so many moods that my music represents that”

-Adam B (Senior)

“I’m a prospective music industry major so my taste is not at all exclusive but as of late, I’ve been listening to really intentional songwriters like Taylor Swift (who’s my hero) and phoebe bridgers. I love music that empowers me as well like soul music— Aretha and Etta James for example. I think this speaks to my open-mindedness and how emotional I am lol because I love everything as long as it makes me feel a lot.”

-Madison (Senior)

Chris Travis, Xavier Wolf, baker ya maker, black kray aka Sickboirari, black smurf, I’m not really sure what it says about me I think that most of their songs are mellow or have a smooth melody and I like to think I have a calming aura to me or a calming personality until I am bothered which then goes with the heavy/loud songs they have

-Santos P.C (Senior)

Sam- “Rina Sawayama, Ben&Ben, LoveHolic. I don’t know what it says about me but I’m very fluid LOL”

-Sam P (Senior)

“Tyler and Rex for me also some indie music as well too underground for yall. I think I’m just reserved and quiet and I don’t know. But when I feel expressive I listen to Tyler and stuff. The Beatles as well. I think that I just have a rocker spirit”

-Joshua C (Senior)

“My favorite genres of music are r&b and neo-soul, and my main two favorite artists are childish Gambino and Solange I’m not sure what it says about me besides the fact I love peace”

-Kamiyah M (Senior)
