Senior Reflection

by Brian Diaz, Staff Writer

With new friendships, and unique moments, Galileo will definitely be the High School I will remember the most. It’s sad that I couldn’t spend my whole high school career here, because I just wonder what I could have done with all the opportunities this high school offers me. Maybe I could have been part of a club or a team, but senior year has been really busy, but I am leaving this school with good memories. It was an honor being a lion.

In my  first three years of high school I was in three different schools; Abraham Lincoln High School, Antioch High School, and Mission High School. I was moving around very often, so I didn’t have any true friends, but to my surprise I became close to a lot of new people at Galileo.

At the beginning of the school year, having to start all over again at another new school, I was not expecting much besides working at a restaurant and making money. But this school showed me there was a lot more to offer me than just coming and going to work.

Going into Galileo I only had 2 friends who I was comfortable with, but I’m leaving the school with 6 close friends. It’s just hard to not have things to talk to them about and laugh about, we also plan things ahead of time, and thanks to them I’ve been able to meet more new people and I’ve been able to socialize even more. Although I only came to Galileo for my senior year,l I never felt like I was a stranger at this school.

Besides the friends I’ve made, Food fest is something I was always looking forward to and has made this year memorable for me. When I first heard of it I was surprised, because in all the high schools I’ve been to there weren’t any events or activities for the community. When the food fest came I didn’t expect many students to gather in the courtyard, but I managed to socialize with many students, which made it very fun.

I’ll also remember my Pre- Calculus class, not because of the subject but because I also managed to be able to socialize with my new friends in the class. Finishing my homework was something I didn’t like, but finishing my homework and not having anything to do and just playing poker with my friends was something I enjoyed a lot.

Another class I’ll remember is Journalism because I got to go around talking to teachers and students, which helped strengthen my social skills. I have never been a shy person, but I’m very awkward, because I don’t talk to people very often. In journalism that awkwardness was kept under control, because for once, I was able to talk and keep long conversations with people.

I’ve learned that the community at Galileo is a very active community, and a community where you can socialize a lot with different people. That’s what I really appreciate about Galileo High School, that for once I was socializing a lot with people.
