After interviewing school counselors & hearing what a fulfilling job it is, new counselor, Jessica Solis, decided on a career in education during her undergraduate years at CSU San Marcos. After gaining experience working in education, & then graduating from SFSU with a master’s in counseling, Ms. Solis is now the newcomer counselor at Galileo.
After graduating with her undergraduate degree in psychology, Ms. Solis decided to take a break from school, and not jump right into graduate school. Wanting to get some education experience first, she worked for 2 years as a behavioral technician for kids with autism.
When she was ready to go to graduate school, Ms. Solis decided to move up to San Francisco, due to the city’s beautiful green scenery and close proximity to places she could hike. While attending SFSU, she continued to get real-world experience in education by interning at Allen Elementary School and Hayward High School until she graduated.
Ms. Solis is excited about the opportunity to work as a new counselor, especially with the group of veteran counselors at Galileo. Ms. Solis hopes to learn from her coworkers and serve the students well. She says, “I’m learning a lot from the counselors in the office and hope to become as great of a counselor as them one day.”
